Today is a day that will go down in my family’s annals of history. Today will be a day that marks the box next to “Never buy me a player’s jersey again” on the gift registry card.
Today ends the Richmond Lockwood Sexson era in Seattle.
The 1st baseman was signed to a monster contract in 2004 (4-years $50M)
to bring some power to a lineup that was completely lacking. He did this in his first season, hitting 39 Home Runs with a Slugging Percentage of .541. We have watched, however, as his HR numbers have gone from 39 to 34 to 21 and then finally down to 11 in 252 at bats this season. His slugging has dropped all the way down to .381.
The last two years have been tough for Richie as he became the butt of jokes and the ire of “boo-birds”.
Today that ended as he was released by Seattle.
That is correct: released. Not traded. They couldn’t get anything for him EVEN if they had paid his contract. That is pretty pathetic.
Between him and Josh Brown, the Fiancé isn’t in the mood to receive any jerseys as gifts anymore.
Next Release? Jose Vidro.

I feel your pain. I got like 3 seasons out of Corey Dillon Patriots jerseys. Yes plural. Done, no more player jerseys unless I'm certain he'll be around. My fiancee's Vrabel shirt is still good for a bit.
